Independence Stages a Mock Crash on Campus

Independence Stages a Mock Crash on Campus
Mock CrashThe Glendale Fire-Medical Department joined with the Glendale Police Department, and the PMT ambulance to present a mock DUI crash to Independence High School students on Thursday, April 9th at 9:00 am.  The school’s prom was successfully attended on Saturday, April 25th, and by showcasing the devastation that drinking and driving can cause, it is hoped that the mock crash contributed to there being no student underage drinking incidents.

During this mock crash students were exposed to every moment after a crash involving a drunk driver. They looked on as firefighters/paramedics cut a victim out of one of vehicles and then treat her injuries. That teen was successfully treated but another became a casualty of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Glendale Police began an investigation and a suspect was arrested after a field sobriety test and blood alcohol level determination. It was also mentioned that a ticket can be issued to a passenger after an alcohol-related accident if they have been drinking.

Additionally, the parents of the victim arrived on the scene and received notification of their child’s death which showed the devastating effects beyond the immediate crash. The Medical examiner explained step by step what happens during an autopsy.

The reactions of the students at Independence High School were overall very positive.

Independence High School extend special thanks to all of the Mock Crash participants:
