Cafeteria (Latraille; 8/21- 9/16)

Applications for free and reduced priced meals must be filled out each school year. Accounts from last year will expire on 9/16/19. Applications can take up to 10 days to process so renew your account now.

College Night (Moore; 8/28- 9/4)

Parents and Students come visit with colleges and the military. Learn about planning for your future with college and financial aid. It’s Wednesday, September 4th at 6:30 PM in the gym. See you there.

Journalism (9/3)

Patriots! Homecoming season is around the corner! Do you need a “sweet way” to ask someone to Homecoming? If so, Journalism is selling Sweet Homecoming proposals from Tuesday, September 3 to Tuesday, September 10. For just a few dollars, let that special someone know you want to take them to the dance! If interested in, find a member of the journalism staff, or see Mrs. VanderVeur in room B16.

Fall Play (Farson; 8/29- 9/3)

Attention Patriot Performers! Auditions for the fall play, “Play On!” will be on Wednesday September 4th and Thursday September 5th at 3pm in the PAC. The play is the hilarious story of a theatre group trying desperately to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from an overly confident author who keeps revising the script. Comedy ensues when they try to put on an awful show that only becomes more disastrous as the night goes on. All who wish to audition will need to complete an audition packet BEFORE the audition dates. Packets can be picked up outside of Ms. Farsons classroom, room #501. Auditions are open to all students, so we hope to see you there!

Come buy a ribbon in the mall area for $1 to help raise additional funds for St. Jude.

Elevate I.H.S. (Surge on Campus) will be meeting on Wednesday at 8:20am at the flag pole.   ALL current Elevate I.H.S MEMBERS and anyone interested is encouraged to come and join us. Volleyball (Monaghan; 9/4)

Congratulations Lady Patriot Volleyball on your sweep last night against the Washington Rams. Great start to the season ladies! Keep up the hard work.

Chess Team (Bolton; 9/4)

The Independence Chess team came out “Castle-ing” and “Checkmating” last Friday, 8/30 at Cortez HS, shutting out Alhambra 5-0 and finishing strong against North 3-2.  Undefeated performances were recorded by Ethan Amaya, Kevin Romero, Ian Amaya, and David Vo.  More about our fabulous Varsity Alternates tomorrow…stay tuned. Practice will be held in room B-24 at 2:45 pm-3:35 pm.  New players are always welcome.  No experience necessary.  Rise up Patriot Chess Nation!

Young Environmentalist’s Club (Bolton, Kieu; 9/5)

The Young Environmentalist’s Club would like to invite YOU to come on out and join us TODAY (Thursday) after school at 2:45 pm in Room B-23, Mr. Metoyer’s classroom and join current Young Environmentalist’s and Jr. ROTC in getting community service credit while helping the Patriot Nation Environment in Recycling. No you’re completely wrong, it’s your favorite student store… now back and better than ever.

The Patriot Hut returns with the best snacks, ice cold drinks and catered foods to FEED YOUR PRIDE. And new this year, they’ve got school supplies….need a pen or pencil?

The Patriot Hut will be opening Tuesday, September 10, both lunches and after school! Stop by to grab a cold drink or frozen treat on your way off campus; we’re conveniently located at the bottom of the hill.

Chess Team (Bolton; 9/5)

The Independence Chess team Varsity Alternates played well last Friday, 8/30 at Cortez HS with many playing their first HS matches, finishing strong against various Region 2 opponents.  Impressive performances were recorded by Unique Adams, Travon Carpenter, Azekiel Carrasco, Alijah Gilder, Matthew Hernandez, Kevin Reyes, Armando Sanchez, Jose Francisco Villa, and Emma Wulfers.  The Patriot Chess Team will be back in action tomorrow @ Metro Tech. There will be alternative practice today via Chess.com.  ALL players meet tomorrow right after school for Rounds 3 & 4.

Interact (Freeland; 9/6)

Interactors - don't forget to be at Indy on Saturday from 9:00 to 12:00 to help with Love our Schools.  Bring water bottle.

Shane’s Rib Shack (Marshall; 9/6)

Everybody loves  Barbeque and Shane’s Rib Shack will be here every Monday to bring you’re their tasty barbeque. You will have the option to purchase a shredded barbeque sandwich or buffalo chicken strips for $5.00.

Wrestling (Cumpton; 9/6- 9/9)

Hey Patriots, are you thinking about doing a sport next season, or you’re looking to get in better shape over the winter?  If so, wrestling just might be the sport for you! If you are all at interested, there will be an informative meeting on Tuesday the 10th at 3:00 in Mr. Cumpton’s room, R7.  Also, remember ladies, that this will be the first year of having our very own girls wrestling team! Help make history by joining the team!

Run: Friday 9/6- Mon 9/9

Speech and Debate (Mandile; 9/6- 9/9)

Speech and debate will now be meeting on Mondays. We will be meeting this Monday, 9/9 to discuss upcoming activities and choose debating events. New members are still welcome. See you Monday at 2:45 in R-24

Swim and Dive (Hallum; 9/6)

The swim and dive team started the season off yesterday with both teams splitting their meet with a win against Bourgade Catholic and a loss to Kellis. 

Taking first place in their races were Diana Lizzaraga, Ashley Morales and Guillermo Cazarez all won both of their individual events and Herman Granados took first in the 500 freestyle.  Briana Gonzalez, Alexis Pina, Ian Amaya, Khang Nguyen, Gerardo Molles all added on second place finishes.  Great job Patriots!

Come out and support the team next Thursday in our first home meet of the season as we take on Washington and Phoenix Metro Tech. 

Volleyball (Monaghan; 9/6)

Congratulations to the Lady Patriots Level 2 and Varsity team for defeating the Cortez Colts.  This brings our teams to a 2-0 season.  Great work ladies keep it up.  The Freshman fought hard and came up short.  They are doing well and will continue to grow.  Keep working ladies.  Patriots Rock.
