MONDAY ANNOUNCEMENTS 

Shane’s Rib Shack (Marshall; 1/24)

Everybody loves Barbeque and Shane’s Rib Shack will be here every Monday to bring you’re their tasty barbeque. You will have the option to purchase a shredded barbeque sandwich or buffalo chicken strips for $5.00.

Seniors (Holt; 1/27)

Did you miss purchasing a Senior Hoodie, well they are on sale in the Bookstore for $25.00.  Medium to 2XLarge, until sold out.

Track (Gardner; 1/22-1/28)

All students interested in participating in track this season, there will be an informational meeting on Wednesday 1/28 at 2:45 in the mini auditorium.  Please be there and be on time if you are interested in being a part of the program this year.  If you are unable to attend, please see Coach Gardner to get details. 

Spring Musical (Farson; 1/23-1/27)

Attention Patriots! It’s that time of year. Your spring musical, Schoolhouse Rock Live, is right around the corner! The Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning educational cartoon series and pop culture phenomenon is now a made for the stage musical. The story follows Tom, a young schoolteacher, who is nervous about his first day of teaching. As he watches TV before work, various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music. Memorable songs such as "Just a Bill,” and "Conjunction Junction" bring his lesson plans vividly to life.

Auditions are open to all students. Those who wish to audition need to prepare a 30-45 sec song and be prepared to read from the script. Additionally, all those auditioning need to complete an audition packet before the auditions. Packets can be picked up outside Ms. Farsons room, #501. Auditions are on Monday 1/27 and Tuesday 1/28 at 3pm in the PAC. You must attend BOTH days of auditions to be considered for a part. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Farson. We hope to see you there!

Attention seniors: ASU will be holding a verification workshop in the Career Center during both lunches on Thursday, January 30th. If you were selected for a verification process and need help, PLEASE go to the Career Center on Thursday, January 30th during your lunch hour. Parents are also welcome.

Unitown (Carreon; 1/27)

Aloha and Congratulation to all students and staff who participated in Unitown 2020 one week ago. This year’s camp was the largest we have had at Independence. It was challenging and difficult at times but also very rewarding and positive. Mahalo to all Unitown grads. If any sophomore or junior is interested in next year’s Unitown, please stop by room 228 for more information.

Do you have a favorite poem you would like to share? Do you have a part from a book or short story, or play you want everyone one to hear? All original work needs to be shared with Mrs. Ehrick prior to Jan 31. Come into the media center Feb 4 and hear your classmates share their favorite poems, short stories, or play excerpts.

Media Center (Ehrick; 1/31)

Monday is the beginning of the Readathon. Several students have agreed to read as much as 200 pages before Feb 14th. So make sure to cheer them on. To celebrate the Readathon, we have several events. Monday, you can learn how to make friendship bracelets at both lunches and after school. Supplies are provided. Staff, students, and faculty are invited to attend.

Softball (Wyatt; 1/31)

Attention! All girls interested in playing softball, tryouts are February 10th at 3:30 on the varsity softball field. Make sure you are on time!

Voter Registry (Blankenship, Mandile, Rubio, Shepard; 1/31)

Attention; Wednesday February 5th IHS in coordination with Maricopa County will be holding a voter registration drive during both Lunches. All students who will turn 18 on or before November 3rd, 2020 are eligible to preregister or register to vote. In order to sign up Students will need one of the following, an Arizona Drivers license, AZ State ID card, Tribal ID, birth certificate or a passport.

In 2016 national Voter Turnout was just 61% or eligible voters, remember voting is your civic duty, the Varsity Social Studies club here at IHS would like to help increase  voter turnout for the November 2020 Election, if able please bring your proper Identification on February the 5th and GET REGISTERED!
