TUESDAY ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

Poetry Contest (Gaspar/Powell; 1/13-1/21)

Patriots! The annual I.H.S. poetry celebration has now begun! The contest deadline is January 21st. See your English teacher for more details.

Baseball (Anthony; 1/15-1/20)

Boys interested in playing baseball this spring. We will be having an informational meeting on Tuesday January 21st on the Varsity Baseball field after school. This is for all levels. If you cannot attend the meeting please talk with Coach Anthony, Mr. Urban, or Mr. Lira to get information regarding the upcoming season and what is needed to be able to participate this offseason. Again, there is an informational meeting for all boys interested in playing baseball this spring on Tuesday January 21st after school on the varsity baseball field.

Students if you took the PSAT in October, the results are in. Please visit the Career Center for your results before school, after school or during your lunch hour.

Shane’ Rib Shack (Marshall; 1/)

Everybody loves Barbeque and Shane’s Rib Shack will be here every Monday to bring you’re their tasty barbeque. You will have the option to purchase a shredded barbeque sandwich or buffalo chicken strips for $5.00.

DECA (Munoz; 1/21)

Wednesday, January 15, sixteen IHS DECA Members attended the District 7 DECA Conference and competed against marketing students from across the district.  IHS DECA won 12 medals in total, which included two FIRST PLACE prizes.  Congratulations to our medal winners:

  • Sophomores Andrea Gamino, Jenny Nguyen, Gabriel Vega and Junior Emily Romero received test medals for scoring 70 or higher on the qualifying exam
  • Sophomores Sophia Strike, Jenny Nguyen, Gabriel Vega, Juniors Isaiah Sanchez and Emily Romero, and Senior Francisco Hernandez for being top finishers in their categories
  • And special recognition goes to Junior Emily Romero for finishing first in the Marketing Communications event and Sophomore Gabriel Vega for finishing first place in the Principles of Marketing event.

Way to go Indy DECA!

Unitown (Carreon; 1/22)

Congratulations to all students and staff who participated in Unitown 2020. This year’s camp was the largest we have had at Independence. It was challenging and difficult at times but also very rewarding and positive. Mahalo to all Unitown grads. And don’t forget to wear your camp shirt this Friday. Aloha! 

Y.E.C (Bolton/Kieu; 1/22)

Again, the Young Environmentalist’s Club & Jr. ROTC recycling partners would like to invite you to join them after school TOMORROW (1/22) / TODAY (1/23) at 2:45 pm in Room G-11.  ALL current Young Environmentalist’s & Jr. ROTC volunteers NEED to come in order to get some extremely EASY community service hours helping “Recycle” our beautiful Patriot Nation. No experience necessary!

Art 1-2 (Odom/Cramer; 1/23)

Attention all students that had Art 1-2 last year. The PBA drawings are in for you to pick up. Please see the Art 1-2 teacher you had last year- Mr. Odom or Ms. Cramer to pick up your drawing. You have 2 weeks to pick up your drawings.

Spring Musical (Farson; 1/23-1/27)

Attention Patriots! It’s that time of year. Your spring musical, Schoolhouse Rock Live, is right around the corner! The Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning educational cartoon series and pop culture phenomenon is now a made for the stage musical. The story follows Tom, a young schoolteacher, who is nervous about his first day of teaching. As he watches TV before work, various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music. Memorable songs such as "Just a Bill,” and "Conjunction Junction" bring his lesson plans vividly to life.

Auditions are open to all students. Those who wish to audition need to prepare a 30-45 sec song and be prepared to read from the script. Additionally, all those auditioning need to complete an audition packet before the auditions. Packets can be picked up outside Ms. Farsons room, #501. Auditions are on Monday 1/27 and Tuesday 1/28 at 3pm in the PAC. You must attend BOTH days of auditions to be considered for a part. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Farson. We hope to see you there!

Girls’ Soccer (Monaghan; 1/24)

Congratulations to the Varsity and JVA soccer teams.  They defeated Glendale Cardinals last night.  Way to go Lady Patriots.  You rocked it.
