The Independence High School (IHS) boys’ soccer team won in the first round of the state playoffs with a score of 3-0. The boys went into the tournament ranked #2 in the state and faced off against the #15 seed, Arcadia Titans.

The first two goals came in the first half of play by senior leading scorer Aaron Vilchis. The third and final goal came from junior Alex Mata to seal the victory in the second half.

Head Coach Sergio Gomez said, “It was a good win,” and he is “excited for [the team],” going into the next game.

The Patriots are in action again Saturday, February 3rd, against the #10 Desert View Jaguars. The boys will play on their home field, Tolmachoff Stadium at IHS, for the quarterfinal game.

“We really appreciate all the fans...It was great to see the stands packed with that support,” Gomez said.

Game time is 2:00 pm on Saturday at Independence High School as the boys play for a spot in the semi-finals.
